Songs of Silence

NO DEPOSIT, NO RETURN

Guess I’m living in Sodom and Gomorrah, in a Mayberry RFD state of mind.

This is not a sad song, just thoughts about the life long problem some men seem to have. Being simple blokes, men often run women away from the things they love, but are afraid of. What is to be feared woman, when a healthy virile man sings love songs to you….?

Oh I see, you lust after the drug addicted rapper who calls you ‘ho’, slaps you around, degrades you, laughs about you with the other guys after you let him have his perverted way with you?

Sorry, this is going to be one of my best songs, written in one of my foulest moods. The mood I talk about happened many decades ago.....that said.....should I not share my past.....the emotions.....the things that made me what I am? A truckdriver? (if there is ever a Truckers Hall of Fame, I will be in it, first ballot.)

I think you will be able to hear the tune to this song.....it is simple 12 bar blues.....there are hundreds of songs sang the same way.....many written by much better songwriters.....who couldn't drive an 18 wheeler.....OK.....I drive 18 wheeler but can't write songs as good as some. Tradeoffs are beautiful.....listen up friend, just a little blues ditty.

The song is called

“No deposit, No return”

No deposit, No return

It’s no big surprise to me,

Closing my eyes didn’t change the facts.

Or the things I wanted to see,

You’re gone and are not coming back.

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

Leaving nothing to sing but the blues.

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

No problem, I’m used to the blues.

“No big deal” I say, but I know,

I’m confusing fiction with fact.

“Don’t say a word just let her go,

She’s gone and will never be back.”

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

Leaving nothing to sing but the blues.

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

No problem, I’m used to the blues.

What if she needed but one word from me?

Or one word I need to take back?

Even a blind man this truth could see,

She’s gone, won’t be back, that’s a fact!

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

Leaving nothing to sing but the blues.

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

No problem, I’m used to the blues.

What good is it pointing a finger,

To which of us started the spat?

We both let too many doubts linger

She’s gone, I’m blue; that’s a fact.

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

Leaving nothing to sing but the blues.

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

No problem, I’m used to the blues.

If swallowing pride could resolve,

The pain that is on it’s way back.

I’d do it and hope it would solve,

The problem of wanting her back.

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

Leaving nothing to sing but the blues.

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

No problem, I’m used to the blues.

I’m used the blues? What a lie,

Confusing fiction with fact.

They say from the blues no one dies,

Check back soon, if she never comes back.

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

Leaving nothing to sing but the blues.

She’s gone like yesterdays news,

No problem, I’m used to the blues.

I came " that close to leaving myself about a year ago.
Bitch, nag, argue..
I finally asked her, '' What is SO bad about your/our life? I don`t go hang out all night with the guys, I don`t chase other women, I take you out, I take you to Vegas and such, you drive a new car, you have ''some'' money to burn, you have a nice comfortable house, our kids and grandkids are in good enough shape and live good lives, we are in fairly good health, God has been Good to us. Why do YOU refuse to be Happy''?
She had no real answer, but did admit the situation.
I am afraid childbirth was not the only thing God cursed woman with.
Things have been better for us, I hope it last. Our 30th is in April. We just might make it.
Be strong old friend.
