This Picture Haunts Me
It is a picture of an Iraqi woman searching for remains of someone she loved. It was taken at one of the many mass graves where Hussein buried those he had killed. From the size of the jaw bone, she is trying to find the remains of a grown-up; perhaps her husband, brother or father. She is trying to find some remains by looking at teeth in a jawbone. For millions of people in Iraq there has been no closure when it came to the disappearance of a loved one.
The reason I shared this: It helps to explain the determination of the Iraqi people. Yesterday was one bad day for civilians in Iraq. When we hear about over a hundred civilians dying in one day of terrorist activity, we cringe and wonder how they do it.
Could it be they don’t want to dig through any more mass graves looking for a few bones of someone they loved to give a decent burial?
At least with the remains of the hundred plus civilians the terrorists murdered yesterday, there will be a decent burial, with friends and relatives meeting to mourn or eulogize.
Wish to read more about one of hundreds of mass grave sites found in post-hussein Iraq.

I cannot believe no one has commented on this. What a picture! Yes, it speaks to me of sorrow and horror.
Yet it speaks to me of a mothers love, and how the human spirit will ultimately win.
The human will to live cannot be held down. Sadham Hussein was a monster, and had millions of humans in chains. There are hundreds of thousands of people who for the first time, have the freedom to go sifting through dirt and sand for the bones of their loved ones, to give them a human burial. Thanks for sharing this.
This picture should have won a Pulitzer prize.
I agree with both you and Neo_Right re: what this picture says. I cannot believe anyone would want us to just leave these people to the wolves...
I am really disappointed, I thought this photo would touch peoples hearts, and they would have a mental glimpse of what it must be like to be a civilian in Iraq. So much for this.
That jawbone is not mine or anyone in my circle of friends so I don't have to even think about it.
BUT
This could very well be a picture of how your grandchildren ponder the bones of their chickenhearted ancestors, chickens who would not fight evil, because....well who knows why?
There will be survivors of WWIII
Hopefully it will be you and me.
But if you won't fight the ones who have publically announced that they will kill you.......
You are dead!
Do I have to explain it to you again?
Forget it, you are too stupid to survive.
Go to sleep and dream of peace while the enemy works....to kill you, me and our way of life.
